Greenville, S.C. – Furman placed 49 student-athletes on the 2022 Southern Conference Fall Academic All-Conference Team, it was announced today by the league office.
A total of 411 student-athletes were named to the team, comprised of representatives from men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball.
To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
With 13 honorees, the Furman football team topped the Paladin contingent followed by 10 selections from the men's soccer squad. The Furman women's soccer team, along with men's and women's cross country, all placed seven representatives on the team. The Paladin volleyball team had five selections.
The impressive work in the classroom by Furman student-athletes backed up a strong 2022 fall campaign of competition. Setting the pace of success were head coach
Robert Gary's men's and women's cross country teams, which claimed their 10
th-consecutive league championships. The Paladin football team appeared in the FCS playoffs for the 19
th time in program history, while the Furman volleyball squad advanced to the finals of the SoCon Volleyball Championship.
