FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Furman senior Walker Crosby (-2) is tied for fifth after Friday's first round of the Mason Rudolph Championship, which is being hosted by Vanderbilt at the par 71, 7,112 yard Vanderbilt Legends South Course in Franklin, Tenn. 

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Crosby birdied No. 7 and turned at 1-under.  On the back, he notched consecutive birdies on No. 11 and No. 12 and played a virtually flawless round with 14 pars and three birdies.  Crosby, who tied for the tournament lead with a 3.78 scoring average on the par 4s, sits five strokes back of leader Gordon Sargent (-7) of Vanderbilt, who led the field with a 64 on Friday. 

Sophomore Harris Barth (-1) is one stroke behind Crosby in a tie for eighth after shooting a 1-under 70 with a birdie on No. 14 and 17 pars in round one.  Junior Will Morlan (+2) carded a 2-over 73 with three birdies and is tied for 32nd.  

Junior Trey Diehl (+5), senior Ross Funderburke (+5), and sophomore Zach Frazer (+5) are all tied for 57th each carded a 76 on Friday.  Diehl recorded a team-high four birdies with back to back birdies on No. 12 and No. 13, while Funderburke posted birdies on No. 5 and No. 18.  Frazer, who is playing as an individual, birdied No. 18. 

No. 3 Vanderbilt (-8) led the field with a 276 on Friday to take a seven-stroke lead into Saturday's second round.  UNC Wilmington (-1) sits in second, followed by Charlotte (E) in third place.  Middle Tennessee State (+1) and fifth-ranked Ole Miss (+1) are tied for fourth, while Furman (+4) is in sixth place, ahead of Power 5 foes Alabama (+8) and Kentucky (+12), among others. 

Furman led the field with a 3.00 scoring average on the par 3s and ranked third with 60 pars.    

The 54-hole tournament continues Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET with teams teeing off on No. 1 and No. 10.  The Paladins will tee off of No. 1 starting at 11:25 a.m. in round two and will play in a group with Middle Tennessee State and Ole Miss.
