GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman sophomore middle blocker
Tennyson Gorman was chosen as the Southern Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for matches played November 3-9, it was announced today by the league office.
The honor was Gorman's second of the season and third overall for the Paladins. Sophomore outside hitter
Ashley Stein was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on October 20.
A native of Franklin, Tennessee, Gorman helped guide Furman to back-to-back home wins last week over the league's top two teams in Wofford and East Tennessee State. She led the team with 21 blocks (8 solo, 13 assisted) and tied for third with 15 kills on .367 hitting. Averaging 2.33 blocks per set, Gorman recorded double digit blocks in both matches highlighted by a career high 11 (6 solo, 5 assisted) on November 8 as the Paladins handed the Buccaneers their first conference loss of the season with a 3-2 triumph. She had tied her previous career high of 10 blocks (2 solo, 8 assisted) two days earlier in a 3-1 victory over Wofford, Furman's first over the Terriers since 2021.
Offensively, Gorman posted seven kills on .429 hitting against Wofford and eight on .313 hitting versus East Tennessee State. She tied her career high of three service aces in the win over the Buccaneers.
She leads the SoCon this season, and is fourth nationally, with 142 blocks and ranks ninth with 250 kills. Gorman is the first Paladin since Courtney Hoffman in 2019 to have over 100 kills and blocks in a season. Her 142 blocks are sixth-most for a season in program history.
Furman closes out the regular season this weekend traveling to Western Carolina and Chattanooga.
