Four Paladins Named To SoCon All-Freshman Indoor Track & Field Team In Final Day Of Conference Meet

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- Four Paladin rookies garnered Southern Conference All-Freshman Team accolades to lead the Furman indoor track and field teams in the final day of competition at the Southern Conference Championship Meet Friday in Birmingham, Ala.  Appalachian State won the women's team event, while Western Carolina captured the men's crown.  The Paladins placed seventh place in the men's meet and finished eighth in the women's competition. 

William Ivey placed fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:54.77 to earn all-freshman team status, while Tripp Hurt took fifth place in the mile after posting a time of 4:13.96 to secure a spot on the team.  For the Paladin women's team, Sinead Haughey turned in a time of 17:26.64, good for ninth place and a position on the all-freshman team, and Danielle Ebzery's mark of 10.51 in the triple jump landed her a 12th place finish and all-freshman team honors.

Senior Lee Gilmer finished second in the mile run, the Paladins' top finish among all events, with a time of 4:09.51.  Junior Wilkerson Given finished seventh in the event (4:14.48), followed by sophomore James Perez in eighth place (4:14.65).  Sophomore Jack Klecker turned in a 12th-place finish with a time of 4:24.99 in the event.  In the 5,000m sophomore Tyler Greathouse finished 19th with a time of 15:47.02, followed by senior in 20th place after tallying a time of 15:48.68.

Senior Erin Barker placed third in the mile with a time of 4:54.74, and sophomore Catherine Burton took 14th in the event after posting a time of 5:15.16.  Freshman Blair Burke turned in a time of 5:27.72 for 21st-place in the mile.  Senior Brooke Mosteller placed fifth in the 5,000m with a time of 17:18.51, and junior Hannah Robinson finished the event in 18:14.29 for 16th place.  

The Furman 4x400m relay team of sophomore Alexa Wilton, Barker, junior Misha Holmes, and freshman Rachel Gilbert turned in a time of 4:12.91 for eighth place.  

Furman will open the outdoor track and field season March 16-17 at the 49ers Classic in Charlotte, N.C.
