TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Junior Tripp Hurt placed 82nd with a time of 24:19.11 to lead the Furman men's cross country team at the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. Fifty-two teams, including nine teams ranked among the nation's top 30, competed in the 8K Blue Race. Each team in the event held a regional ranking entering Saturday's competition.
Five out of Furman's remaining six runners were freshmen, including Troy Reeder, who placed 110th with a time of 24:41.81, and Tanner Hinkle, who came in 131st after recording a time of 24:49.07. Rookie Connor Sorrells was 238th at 25:22.48.
Senior Jack Klecker claimed spot 242 with at time of 25:23.34, while freshmen Brock Baker and Nate Riech rounded out the Paladin lineup. Baker placed 288th at 25:47.84,and Riech registered a time of 25:57.13 for 304th place.
Colorado, ranked second nationally, won the meet with 90 points, while fourth-ranked Oregon was second with 113 points. #1 Oklahoma State, the defending national champion, placed seventh with 300 points. Furman finished 30th overall with 803 points.
Following an off weekend next weekend, the Paladins will compete at the Southern Conference Championships on Nov. 2 in Birmingham, Ala.
