RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Furman men's 4x1500m relay team of freshmen Brock Baker, Troy Reeder, and Nate Riech, and junior William Ivey placed second and established a new Paladin record with a time of 15:45.98 to lead the Furman track and field teams Saturday in the final day of the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
The relay team broke the previous record of 15:47.52, set by Tripp Hurt, Wilkerson Given, James Perez, and Lee Gilmer in 2012.
"Our 4x1500m team really did a nice job," said Furman head coach Robert Gary following the meet. "This was their first race of the season, and they almost came away with the title. I am very proud of their school record, which I hope we break every single year going forward."
Two other athletes competed for the Paladins in the final day of the meet. Senior Jack Klecker posted a time of 31:15.54 in the 10,000m, while freshman Shauna Owen competed the 400m hurdles in 1:08.04.
Furman continues the outdoor season next weekend when the Paladins compete in the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point on Friday and Saturday.
