Junior Year (2015-16): Earned All-Southeast Region honors for cross country after placing 18th with a time of 29:56.8 to lead the Paladins…garned All-SoCon honors with a third-place finish and a time of 24:15.3 at the league cross country meet…won the Furman Invitational (24:17.3)…set a new Paladin record with a time of 14:14.58 in the 5,000m at the Iowa State Indoor Classic…named to the All-SoCon team after finishing second with a time of 14:20.0 in the 5,000m at the league indoor meet…also posted a fifth-place finish in the 3,000m at the SoCon indoor meet.
Sophomore Year (2014-15): Recorded a time of 30:45.68 to finish 22nd in the 10,000m at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminaries…qualified for the NCAA meet after posting a time of 29:16.77 in the event at the Stanford Invitational, setting a new Furman record…also set a new Paladin record with a time of 14:09.61 in the 5,000m at the Virginia Outdoor Challenge…won the individual title with a time of 24:17.78 at the Furman Cross Country Invitational…named to the All-SoCon first team after placing fourth with a time of 24:18.92 at the SoCon Outdoor Championships…garnered all-region accolades with a 12th-place finish (30:28.0) at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships…won the 3,000m with a time of 8:25.75 to open the indoor season at the High Point Team Challenge….placed third in the 5,000m (14:25.53) and fifth in the 3,000m (8:33.18) at the SoCon Indoor Championships…finished second in the 5,000m at the SoCon Outdoor Championships after recording a time of 14:46.70…named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
Freshman Year (2013-14): Posted a time of 30:44.26 to claim 26th place in the 10,000m at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Regional…qualified for the NCAA regionals after posting a time of 29:38.11 in the event at the Raleigh Relays, breaking the previous Furman record of 29:54.50, set by David Branch in 1978, by more than 16 seconds…set a new indoor 5,000m record with a time of 14:29.18, breaking the old record of 14:52.91, set by David Maxfield in 1989, by over 20 seconds…also set a new outdoor 5,000m record with a time of 14:21.50, breaking the record of 14:25, also set by David Branch, in 1978…earned All-SoCon second team accolades after placing ninth with a time of 25:30.25 at the league cross country championships, helping the Paladins to their first SoCon XC championship since 1976...selected to the SoCon All-Freshman Team for cross country…named SoCon Indoor Track Runner of the Week on Febuary 19 after setting Furman 5,000m record…placed second in both the 3,000m and 5,000m at the SoCon Indoor meet, earning a spot on the All-Freshman Team…chosen the SoCon Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week after setting the school 10,000m record….took first in the 5,000m with a Blue Shoes Invitational meet record of 14:38.56…won the 10,000m and finished sixth in the 5,000m at the league outdoor championships…garnered All-SoCon accolades in the 10,000m and was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in both events…named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
High School: Runner-up at the 2012 Michigan state cross country championships...won the state championship in the 3,200m as a senior...placed seventh with a time of 14:34 in the 5K at the 2013 New Balance High School Championship...a three-time qualifier for the state cross country championships...top prep times: 1,600m (4:18.24), 3,200m (9:07.94), 5,000m (14:34.39), cross country 5K (15:09.80).
Personal: Tanner Hinkle was born on September 28, 1994, in Mason, Mich....son of Dave and Amy Hinkle...father ran cross country and track and Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich...brother, Nick, competed on the swim team at Hope College in Holland, Mich., and now coaches the swimming teams at Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, W.Va....plans to study economics and mathematics.
