Furman Track & Field Teams To Compete At Tennessee Relays

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman track and field teams will compete at the 52nd annual Tennessee Relays this Friday and Saturday at the Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Paladin running events will begin Friday at 4:50 p.m. with the women's 400m and will continue throughout the evening, concluding with the women's 5,000m, which is scheduled to begin at 8:05 p.m.  Friday's field events will commence with the women's javelin at 1:30 p.m.  On Saturday, the Furman women's 4x800m team will run at 3:30 p.m.

The Furman men are rated fourth nationally in the 10,000m, as Aaron Templeton, Frank Lara, Daniel Bernal, and Mason Coppi all are among the top 34 in the East.  Templeton ranks third in the East at 28:27.85, and Lara is eighth with a time of 28:47.89.  Junior Jake Ogden holds the 19th-best 1,500m time in the East at 3:46.07, and rookie Cameron Ponder is 44th in the 3,000m Steeplechase at 9:09.82.

On the women's side, Gabbi Jennings and Krissy Gear are third and fourth, respectively in the 3,000m Steeplechase.  Jennings holds a time of 9:59.54, followed by Gear at 10:05.86.  Savannah Carnahan sits in eighth place in the 5,000m at 33:35.11, and Emma Kuntz ranks 40th at 2:08.47 in the 800m.

"After a terrific showing at the Raleigh Relays and Wofford, we are excited to head off to the University of Tennessee," said Furman head coach Robert Gary.  "We are primed for a couple of more regional qualifiers and some competitive off-distance races against strong ACC, SEC, and Big 10 programs at a newly-renovated facility."
