GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman baseball standout Brandon Elmy has been named Furman ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader of the Month for April, it has been announced.
The senior first baseman from Venice, Fla., will be recognized with the award prior to tonight's 6:00 p.m. game against Western Carolina at Latham Stadium.
A four-year starter, he is hitting .287 with a team leading seven home runs and 31 RBI this year. As a junior he swatted .341 with 11 home runs and 49 RBI en route to earning All-Southern Conference honors.
The career .313 hitter has 25 home runs in his Paladin tenure, ranking 10th in program history.
He is a three-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll selection who will collect his fourth scroll this summer. Selected to Furman's prestigious Quaternion Society for scholarship, leadership, character and loyalty in 2017, and the recipient of Furman's C.Dan Joyner Outstanding Leader Award in March, the economics major will be awarded his Furman diploma along with six of his teammates tomorrow evening in ceremonies at Paladin Stadium.
Elmy most recently served as team captain of Furman Baseball's successful Vs. Cancer fundraising campaign in support of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF). That effort netted $19,234 in the fight against childhood cancer — tops among all participating colleges and universities.
The Furman ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader of the Month award was created to honor Paladin student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.
