Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team will look to even its league record and continue its winning ways at home when it hosts the College of Charleston in Southern Conference action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on YP.com Court at Timmons Arena The game, which will follow the Furman women's team's noon tip-off versus Davidson, will be televised live by Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and streamed live on ESPN3.com.
The Paladins improved to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in SoCon play with a 77-45 victory over The Citadel on Thursday night. Senior Bobby Austin poured in a career-high 17 points and Dominic Early added a career-best 14 points as the Paladins toppled the Bulldogs for the fourth straight time and recorded the largest margin of victory over their instate rivals since a 91-59 triumph in 1974.
Furman shot a season-best 55.1% from the floor on Thursday and drained a season-high 13 three-point baskets to claim its 16th victory in its last 19 home games dating back to the beginning of the 2010-11 season.
Saturday's game marks the 78th meeting in the all-time series between the Paladins and Cougars with Furman boasting a 40-37 edge. The Cougars, however, have won eight straight meetings, 14 of the last 15, and 27 of the last 30 against the Paladins. CofC swept the home-and-home series from Furman last season before rallying for a 63-58 victory over the Paladins in the SoCon Tournament semifinals in Chattanooga, Tenn.
College of Charleston, which enters Saturday's game at 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the SoCon after a 75-58 loss at Wofford on Thursday night, is led by senior Antwaine Wiggins who averages a league-high 17.4 points per game.
