Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team plays its final home contest of 2013 when it hosts Big South Conference member Liberty University on Friday evening on YP Court at Timmons Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised live on the Liberty Flames Sports Network, CSS, Mid-Atlantic Sports Network and ESPN3.
Furman emerges from a week of final exams with a 4-6 record following a 71-35 loss at Clemson on Saturday. Sophomore Stephen Croone continues to lead the purple and white averaging 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assist per game. The point guard is joined in double figures by fellow sophomore Larry Wideman, who has averaged 12.7 points per game, while guard William Gates Jr. has ranked among the top freshman in the Southern Conference by contributing 10.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest.
Friday night's game will mark the third meeting between the Paladins and Flames. Furman swept a home-and-home series with Liberty during the 1990-91 campaign, scoring an 87-76 win in Greenville prior to a 67-62 victory in Lynchburg, Va., in the last meeting on January 17, 1991.
Liberty holds a 5-6 record this season after recording a 77-59 victory over Howard on Tuesday evening at the Vines Center. The Flames, led by fifth-year head coach Dale Layer, have won four of the past five games and are led in scoring by Antwan Burrus at 13.8 points per game.
Furman will be looking to complete a regular season sweep of Big South Conference opponents after downing Gardner-Webb in November and topping Presbyterian on the road earlier this month.
Friday's game can be heard live on WGOG FM 96.3, Fox Sports 1440 AM and through StretchAudio at www.FurmanPaladins.com. The Paladins' official website will also provide free live stats via StatBroadcast.
