Furman Rides Three-Game Win Streak Into Friday Home Tilt Versus S.C. State

Furman vs. SCSU Game Notes

Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's basketball team, winner's of three consecutive games and four of their last five outings, return home on Friday to host the South Carolina State Bulldogs in a 7 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.

Friday's game has been designated as "Paladin Hero Night" at Timmons Arena and all area first responders and their families will receive free admission as the Paladins play in front of the home crowd for the final time during the non-conference portion of the 2016-17 schedule.

The Paladins improved to 6-4 on the season and secured their third straight victory with a 68-65 triumph at Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon before taking a short break for exams, which concluded on Wednesday. Junior Devin Sibley paced the Paladins with 20 points and senior Kris Acox turned in one of his top performances of the season with 18 points and seven rebounds against the Runnin' Bulldogs. Junior Daniel Fowler, who drained a key three-pointer in the game's final minute, and freshman Jordan Lyons tallied nine points apiece.

Sibley leads Furman averaging 15 points per game, while Fowler has added 12.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game. Acox, who has shot 55.4% from the field this season, has contributed 11 points and team-best 6.1 rebounds per game.

Friday's game marks the 16th all-time meeting between Furman and South Carolina State with the Paladins holding an 11-4 series lead. In the last meeting between the programs on November 23, 2010, Furman claimed a 59-55 victory over the Bulldogs in Orangeburg, S.C. South Carolina State captured a 93-91 overtime victory over the Paladins in the last meeting at Timmons Arena during the 2009-10 campaign.

The Bulldogs enter Friday's game at 2-8 after dropping a 93-65 decision at Clemson on Tuesday night. Senior Eric Eaves leads S.C. State averaging 14.9 points per game, while Tashombe Riley has scored 10.5 points per contest.
