Jan. 7, 2009

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman offensive tackle Joel Bell has been invited to the 2009 NFL Scouting Combine (National Invitational Camp), scheduled for Feb. 18-24 in Indianapolis, Ind., it has been confirmed.

Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments, and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand at Lucas Oil Stadium to evaluate the nation's top college football players eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft slated for Apr. 25-26 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Bell, a 6-foot-8, 318-pound senior from Spartanburg, S.C., was recently named to the Associated Press, Walter Camp Foundation, and Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America teams after garnering consensus All-Southern Conference honors.

A three-year starter and three-time All-SoCon selection, he was tabbed by league head coaches as the SoCon's 2008 Jacobs Blocking Award winner, becoming the 13th Paladin to capture the award. On Monday he was named to the College Sporting News Fabulous 50 Team.

He is the third Paladin in the last four seasons to earn an NFL Combine invitation, following fullback Jerome Felton (2008) and quarterback Ingle Martin (2006).

Felton was selected in fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, and Martin was also taken in the fifth round by the Green Bay Packers in 2006.
