Raj Ghosh Leads Paladins In Opening Day Of Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Senior Raj Ghosh (E) fired an opening round 68 Monday and concluded the opening day of play tied for sixth, leaving the Furman (+12) men's golf team in second place heading into the final round of the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at the par 72, 6,913 yard Arnold Palmer Signature Course at Wexford Plantation in Hilton Head, S.C.

Ghosh, a native of Johns Creek, Ga., played flawless golf in the first round.  He started on No. 7 in the shotgun round, making the first of a team-high four birdies on No. 8 and adding birdies on No. 11 and No. 18 to turn at 3-under.  Ghosh added an additional birdie on No. 2 to lead the field at the end of round one.  In Monday's second round, he again opened on No. 7 and birdied two of his first three holes before adding a third birdie on No. 15.  Ghosh concluded the round with a 76 for even par on the day, just four strokes back of Trey Wren (-4) of Temple, who leads the field at 71-69=140. 

Play was suspended due to darkness with just one Furman golfer remaining on the course.  Junior Keller Harper (+4) will complete his final hole of the second round on Tuesday morning.  He finished the day in a tie for 15th after carding an opening round 73 with birdies on No. 11 and No. 17 then adding a birdie on No. 7 in the second round. 

Freshman Phil Jones (+5) and senior Connor Bruns (+5) are tied for 20th after two rounds of play.  Jones opened with a 78 then paced the Paladins with a 71 and a team-high five birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 11 and No. 12, in Monday's second round.  Bruns scored a 77 with a birdie on No. 18 in the day's opening round then shot an even 72 with four birdies in the afternoon round.

Sophomore Jack Crosby (+11) enters Tuesday's final round tied for 51st.  He notched an 81 in the morning round and rebounded with a 74 with birdies on No. 3 and No. 15 in the second round. 

Temple (+11) leads the Paladins (+12) by just one stroke after Monday's play.  Davidson (+15) sits in third, followed by Memphis (+17) in fourth place.  Gardner-Webb (+18) completes the top five.

The tournament will conclude with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.  Pairings will be set when the final group completes the first round, which will commence at 8:15 a.m.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via
