Paladins' Three-Match Winning Streak On The Line As Furman Plays Host To The Citadel On Tuesday

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will put its three-match winning streak on the line when it plays host to The Citadel Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.  The match marks the 47th meeting between the two schools.  The Paladins defeated the Bulldogs, 7-0, during the 2011 regular season last year, then handed The Citadel a 4-1 loss to open the SoCon Tournament, to take a 44-2 lead in the series.

The Paladins picked up their fourth league win of the 2012 season with a 4-3 victory over Elon on Saturday.  Furman won the doubles point then collected singles wins from #2 Alex Christ, #4 Jacob Behal, and #6 Tyler Droll.

Furman is led by junior Andrew Mellow, who ranks 122nd nationally among all singles players, according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.   Mellow, a native of St. Louis, Mo., holds a 9-9 record at number one singles and is 3-3 in league competition.

The Citadel dropped to 5-14 overall and 7-0 in the SoCon after being shutout by Appalachian State, 7-0, last Thursday.
