GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's tennis team will entertain Samford Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center when the team honors Alex Steryous for Senior Day. Special giveaways, including plastic bracelets, will be available for fans.
Over the years, Furman has been very successful on its home court. Over the past 16 seasons the Paladins have lost only 31 matches at home, posting an impressive record of 134-31 since 2002.
Furman enters Saturday's match with a 12-4 overall record and 4-1 SoCon mark after beating College of Charleston, 6-1, on Wednesday. Junior Jake Bhangdia boasts an 11-3 singles record at flight four, and sophomore Drew Singerman is 13-0 in singles play. Jake Munns is 11-3 in singles action. Two Paladin doubles teams are 9-2 overall: Ivan Mitric & Munns at flight one, and Bhangdia and Clarke Wilson at flight two. At flight three, Henrik Atlevi and Singerman are 8-1 overall and 4-1 in SoCon play.
Wednesday's match marks the 15th meeting between the two schools. The Paladins defeated Samford, 5-2, last season in Birmingham, to take a 10-4 series lead. Samford is 9-8 overall and 1-3 in league play after falling to Chattanooga, 5-2, on Wednesday. Last weekend the Bulldogs beat UNCG, 5-2, in Birmingham.
