GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball team tips off the 2018-19 season on Wednesday when it plays host to Coker in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.

Head coach Jackie Carson, who is entering her ninth season at the helm of the Paladin program, has two returning starters and eight letterwinners off last year's squad that finished 18-14 overall, fourth in the Southern Conference, and advanced two rounds into the Women's Basketball (WBI) Invitational.  The Paladins were recently picked third in a preseason poll of SoCon head coaches.

Heading up this year's unit are junior guard Le'Jzae Davidson and sophomore forward Celena Taborn, both of whom were named to the 10-member preseason All-SoCon team.

Davidson averaged 13.6 points per game and finished second in the SoCon with 78 made 3-pointers a year ago en route to earning third team all-conference honors in balloting by head coaches.  Taborn, meanwhile, fashioned an outstanding inaugural campaign in 2017-18, averaging 12.0 points and 5.8 rebounds while topping the SoCon in field goal percentage (.612) while also landing third team all-conference laurels.

Davidson and Taborn will be joined by a contingent of experienced performers, including senior forward Kaitlyn Duncan (4.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 40 blocks), redshirt sophomore small forward Tierra Hodges (5.6 ppg, 4.8 rpg), and sophomore guard Jarya Outten (2.4 ppg), as well as junior guard Taylor Petty, a transfer from Presbyterian College who was named Big South Conference Freshman of the Year and averaged 9.1 ppg as a sophomore for the Blue Hose two years ago.

Hodges, who is returning to the floor after missing the entire 2017-18 season with a knee injury, registered 15 points and claimed 16 rebounds in Furman's 60-41 exhibition game triumph over USC Aiken last week.

Wednesday's opener will be video streamed via ESPN+ with Bryan Lambert delivering the play-by-play call and former Paladin Susan Troutman serving as analyst.
