JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. -- Natalie Srinivasan (-2) fired a second-round 68 to place eighth Monday, leading the 20th-ranked Furman women's golf team (+13) in the opening day of the Briar's Creek Invitational at the par 72, 6,101 yard The Golf Club at Briar's Creek on Johns Island, S.C.
A junior from Spartanburg, S.C., Srinivasan started the round on No. 3 and notched three birdies in her first five holes then added three additional birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 1 and No. 2, to pace the Paladins with six birdies in the day's final round. She opened the day with a 74 with a birdie on No. 7 in the morning round. Srinivasan enters Tuesday's final round six strokes back of individual leader Allyson Geer-Park of Michigan State (-8), who led the field with a 67-69=136.
Senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+2) eagled the par-5 No. 18 in the first round and added two additional birdies, carding a 74, then scored an even 72 with three birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 7 and No. 8, in the afternoon to tie for 24th. Senior Haylee Harford (+6) is tied for 54th after recording a 76 with two birdies in the morning round and a 74 with three birdies in the afternoon.
Sophomore Madison Moosa (+7) scored a 78 with two birdies in round one and rebounded with a 73 with a birdie on No. 7 in round two, tying for 60th, while sophomore Caitlin Cotterill (+10) is tied for 71st entering Tuesday's round. She notched a 79 with back to back birdies on No. 6 and No. 7 to open round one and added a 75 with three birdies in the afternoon.
Freshman Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+11), who is playing as an individual, is tied for 76th after carding a 79 with two birdies in the morning round and a 76 with a birdie on No. 2 in round two.
No. 23 Michigan State (-5) leads the tournament by three strokes over second-place Indiana (-2). No. 25 Campbell (E) sits in third, followed by 39th-ranked Old Dominion (+4). College of Charleston (+5) and Long Beach State (+5) are tied for fifth. Furman (+13) is in tenth place after two rounds.
The 54-hole tournament concludes with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday. Furman will tee off of No. 6 through No. 20 and will play in a group with Penn State and East Carolina.
