AUBURN, Ala. -- Natalie Srinivasan (+1) fired a 71 Tuesday to move into a tie for 12th and lead No. 22 Furman in the second day of the NCAA Auburn Regional at the par-72, 6,371 yard Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Ala.
Srinivasan, a junior from Spartanburg, S.C., birdied No. 5 and turned at even par then added a birdie on No. 11 for a one-under in round two. She enters Wednesday's final round five strokes back of the three leaders. Murray State's Linette Holmslykke (-4) led the field with a 65 on Tuesday to tie for first with Maryland's Virunpat Olankitkunchai (-4) and Auston Kim (-4) of Vanderbilt.
Sophomore Madison Moosa (+4) carded a 74 with a birdie on No. 15 and is tied for 28th after two rounds, while senior Haylee Harford (+5) shot an even 72 with a team-high three birdies to move into a tie for 38th. Freshman Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+8) recorded a 77 with a birdie on No. 8 and is tied for 59th, while senior Jacqueline Bendrick (+12) tallied an 80 on Tuesday and is in 81st place.
Third-ranked Duke (+1) moved into the lead on Tuesday, while No. 17 Virginia (+3) led the field with a 283 to jump five spots into second place. No. 11 Florida State (+4) and sixth-ranked Vanderbilt (+4) are tied for third, followed by East Carolina (+10) in fifth. Host Auburn (+13), which is ranked 13th, and No. 42 Tennessee (+13) are tied for sixth, and Maryland (+15) sits in eighth after two rounds. Furman (+17) in ninth place entering round three.
The Paladins, who will tee off of No. 1 at 8 a.m. in Wednesday's final round and play in a group with Maryland and Tennessee, are part of an 18-team regional field that is battling for a top six finish and a berth in the 24-team NCAA Championship, which will be held May 17-22 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The top three individuals not affiliated with a qualifying team will also advance through to the NCAA Championship.
Furman, which secured the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by capturing its 18th SoCon Championship last month at Moss Creek Country Club in Hilton Head, S.C., is making its fifth-consecutive and 22nd overall NCAA Regional appearance. The Paladins appeared in 17-straight regionals from 1993, when the regional format began, until 2010. Furman finished third last season at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional in Tallahassee, Fla., and went on to place 11th at the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
