Wilmington, Del. – A 17-0 run to open the game propelled the Paladins to a 19-2 victory over Delaware State on Sunday at Wilmington University. The win moves Furman to 6-10 on the year and 2-2 in SoCon play, while the loss drops the Horents to 0-13 and 0-4 in SoCon play.
Thirteen different Paladins registered in the scoring column, while Grace Pollak and Cabell Zakas each tallied two goals and three assists for a team-high five points. Courtney Baker and Maggie Friel split time in goal, making four saves, while Gaby Susz picked up a team-high three ground balls and won four draws.
The Paladins held the Hornets off the board in the first half, racing out to a 13-0 lead heading into halftime. Furman continued the scoring in the second half, using four-straight goals to push the lead to 17-0 before Delaware State got on the board with 7:55 to go in the game. Leah Nonnenmann pushed the Furman lead to 18-1 with 5:32 before the Hornets netted their final goal of the day to cut the lead to 18-2. Avery Whitehead scored the final goal of the day for the Paladins with 1:40 to go, giving Furman the 19-2 win.
Furman is back in action on Saturday, April 28, closing out the 2018 regular season against Wofford. Opening draw is set for 12:00 p.m. inside Paladin Stadium.
