Greenville, S.C. – Grace Pollak netted a career-high six goals and Furman used an 8-4 second half to rally and down Campbell, 11-9, on a chilly Wednesday afternoon inside Paladin Stadium. The win moves the Paladins to 2-4 on the year, while the loss drops the Camels to 2-4.
Pollak led all players with six scores on eight shots, including a free position attempt, while winning one draw and causing one turnover. Hannah Demis finished the day with five points (two goals, three assists), while Isabelle Walsh, Sydney Catts and Abby Shields each added a goal. Sophie Brennan tallied two assists on the day, while Kyra LaMotte added one. Courtney Baker earned the win for the Paladins, making six saves on the afternoon.
The teams traded goals in the game's first five minutes, before Campell netted back-to-back scores to take a 3-1 lead. Pollak scored her second goal of the day at the half's 13:22 mark to cut the lead to one, before the Camels pushed it back to two with just over 7:00 to go until halftime. Pollak completed the first-half hat trick to cut the lead to 4-3, but Campbell scored with 1:34 to go in the half, sending the teams to halftime with the Camels holding a 5-3 lead.
The teams again traded goals to open the half, before Furman used back-to-back goals from Pollak and Demis to tie the game at seven with 11:39 remaining. Campbell pushed the lead back to one with just under 11:00 remaining, before the Paladins used a 4-0 run, capped off by Pollak's sixth goal of the day to take an 11-8 lead with 2:17 remaining. The 6-1 run was one that Campbell could not overcome, as the Camels scored their final goal of the day with 14 seconds remaining to give the Paladins the 11-9 victory.
Furman is back in action on Saturday, March 9, hosting Liberty inside Paladin Stadium at 12:00 p.m.
