Greenville, S.C. – Furman women's lacrosse returns to Greenville this weekend, welcoming Kennesaw State to Paladin Stadium for a 6:00 p.m. Friday contest before taking on Mercer on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. in the Paladins' 2019 SoCon opener. Both games are set to be streamed on ESPN+. Friday's game features free pizza for fans, as well as a koozie giveaway, while Sunday's contest is Fan Appreciation Day, with chances to win a Roku and Amazon Fire.
The Paladins (4-6) are coming off a 1-1 trip to Florida last weekend, downing Stetson, 15-13, before falling at Jacksonville, 18-10. Grace Pollak leads Furman on offense with 27 goals and 10 assists on the year, while Abby Shields has added 20 goals and 10 assists. Courtney Baker has played all the minutes in goal for the Paladins, making 87 saves, while Sophie Brennan has won a team-high 35 draws.
Kennesaw State (4-6) is coming off a 2-0 week, downing former ASUN members Central Michigan and Detroit Mercy, 19-16 and 22-15, respectively. Siena Gore leads the Owls with 44 goals on the year, while Abby Squires is second with 24. Emily Napierala has recorded a team-high 13 assists, while Marissa Gore has won 58 draws.
Mercer (5-6, 2-0 SoCon) opened SoCon play last weekend, downing both Detroit Mercy and Central Michigan, 21-11 and 19-12, respectively. Hailey Rhatigan, reigning SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Bears with 38 goals on the year, while Eva Thorn has turned in 18 goals and a team-high 12 assists. Iseabal Cryne, reigning SoCon Defensive Player of the Week, has made a SoCon-high 103 saves on the season. The Bears will take on SoCon-foe Wofford on Friday before coming to Greenville on Sunday.
