GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team competed Sunday in the final day of the Furman Fall Classic, being held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. One round of doubles play was held on Sunday.
For the Paladins, freshmen Amanda Murray and Margaret Boyette placed seventh in flight one doubles after falling to Anya Morgina and Domi KanaKova of South Carolina 8-2. In flight two, senior Monica Arguello and Katherine Oudin also took seventh place after being defeated by Klara Vyskocilova and Laurianne Henry of Clemson, 8-3. Sophomores Michele Stanford and Jenny Porter placed seventh in flight three with an 8-4 loss to Nelly Radeva and Megan Gornet of Vanderbilt.
The Furman Fall Classic featured seven teams ranked in the top 25 in the 2010 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings: North Carolina (3rd), Northwestern (7th), Clemson (11th), Tennessee (13th), Florida State (14th), South Carolina (19th), and Vanderbilt (27th). The eight-team field also included 12 singles players and five doubles teams ranked in the preseason ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings.
The Paladins will compete at the ITA Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., Oct. 21-24.
