Chapel Hill, N.C. -- Sophomore Margaret Boyette notched two wins in the qualifying singles draw to advance to the main singles draw and lead the Furman women's tennis team at the 2011 ITA-USTA Women's Carolina Regional Thursday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Boyette defeated Rebecca Siegler of Wake Forest, 6-1, 6-2, then topped Ekin Gunaysu of Winthrop, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. Paladin freshman Alex Moreno beat N.C. State's Ashley Miller, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of qualifying singles, then fell to Angie Sekely of UNC Wilmington, 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-0 in the second round.
In doubles action, Boyette teamed with junior Lauren Kline to defeat Danni Terpko and Neena Wanko of East Carolina, 8-2 in the opening round. Sandra Herrera and Gio Portiolli of Winthrop beat Moreno and sophomore Katherine Oudin, 8-3.

Play will continue on Friday morning at 8 a.m. Boyette and Kline will compete in the second round of doubles competition at 9:30 a.m., while Boyette, Kline, and Oudin will compete in the opening round of the singles main draw on Friday afternoon.
