GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team will open the fall season September 13-15, with the Paladins competing at both the Duke Fab 4 Invitational in Cary, N.C., and the Elon Fall Invitational in Elon, N.C.
Senior Katherine Oudin, junior Alex Moreno-Kaste, and freshmen Ansley Speaks and Blair Martin will compete at Duke, while seniors Margaret Boyette and Amanda Murray, junior Kelly Sullivan, and rookie Karlee Bryde will play at Elon.
The Duke event, which features players from Alabama, Texas A&M, William and Mary, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Miami, Duke, and Furman will be held at the Cary Tennis Center. Doubles play begins at 10 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday, with singles rounds following the completion of doubles. The final round of singles will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Admission is free to the event.
The Elon tournament, which will begin with singles then doubles on Friday at 9 a.m., features players from 11 schools. Both singles and doubles play will continue through Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the event, which will be held at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, is also free.
Furman returns five players from last season's team that posted a 14-9 overall record and an 8-2 mark in Southern Conference play. Head coach Debbie Southern, who is entering her 30th season with the Paladins, guided the team to the semifinals of the league tournament in 2012. Moreno-Kaste, Sullivan, Oudin, and Boyette return after being named to the All-Southern Conference Team last season.
