Paladins Conclude Play At UCF Invitational

ORLANDO, FLA. -- The Furman women's tennis swept the doubles competition for the second day in a row and registered three singles wins in the final day of play at the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.  The Paladins squared off against Florida International in doubles and faced UCF in singles at the tournament. 

Junior Alex Moreno-Kaste and senior Katherine Oudin combined for a 6-2 victory versus Tina Mohorcic and Nina Nagode, and rookies Blair Martin and Ansley Speaks teamed up to beat Aleksandra Trifunovic and Carlotta Orlando, 6-3.  The doubles team of senior Margaret Boyette and freshman Karlee Bryde battled to a close 7-5 win over Giulietta Boha and Valentina Briceno.

In singles action, the three Furman rookies were victorious, as Speaks topped Courtney Griffith, 6-2, 6-3, and Martin held on for a 7-6, 7-6 win versus Cortney Cesarini.  Bryde registered a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Annika Hepp.

The Paladins will open the 2014 dual season January 28 at South Carolina.  First serve is set for 4 p.m.
