CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team concluded play Saturday at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. The tournament showcased the top women's tennis players from the states of North Carolina and South Carolina.
Sophomore Ansley Speaks won her opening round singles match, defeating Nicole Laduca of East Carolina, 6-1, 7-6(5) on Friday, then beat N.C. State's Elisha Hande, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, on Saturday in the round of 32. Speaks fell to Hayley Carter of North Carolina, 6-0, 6-3, in the quarterfinal matches.
Senior Alex Moreno-Kaste was defeated by Jessy Rompies of Clemson, 7-5, 7-6(1), in the opening round, and the Paladin duo teamed up in doubles, falling to Fleur Holtkamp and Victoria Pahlett of Charlotte, 8-5, in round one.
Furman will compete at the Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Ill., Nov. 7-9.
