Paladins Sweep Mercer, 7-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman women's tennis team swept Mercer, 7-0, Thursday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. 

The Paladins swept the doubles matches to claim the opening point.  Sophomore Ansley Speaks and senior Alex Moreno-Kaste teamed up to beat Roxy Bartz and Garce Korta, 8-0, at flight one, and sophomore Blair Martin and rookie Alejandra Gil downed Xandra Fougner and Haley Powell, 8-4, at number two.  Freshman Harper Caswell and sophomore Karlee Bryde beat Laura Kelly and Liza Klyachkin, 8-1, in the flight three contest.

Furman won all six singles matches to complete the sweep.  Speaks held on for a 6-4, 7-6(6) win over Fougner at flight one, and Moreno-Kaste defeated Korta, 6-2, 6-1, at number two.  In the flight three contest, Martin topped Bartz, 6-0, 7-6(4), while Bryde beat Powell, 6-0, 6-2, at number four.  Flights five and six played an 8-point pro set, with Caswell downing Klyachkin, 8-1, at number five, and Gil recording an 8-6 win over Kelly at number six.

Furman (6-12, 2-2 SoCon) will travel to Wofford on April 9 for its final road match of the season. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
