Furman Women's Tennis To Open 2015 Fall Season Friday At Elon

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team will open the fall season September 11-13 at the Elon Fall Invitational in Elon, N.C.   

The tournament, which will begin with singles then doubles on Friday at 9 a.m., features players from 16 schools, including Chattanooga, Elon, Emory, George Washington, Georgia Southern, Liberty, N.C. A&T, N.C. Central, UNCG, UNCA, Richmond, USC Upstate, Wake Forest, Western Carolina, and Winthrop, in addition to the Paladins.  Both singles and doubles play will continue through Saturday and Sunday.  Admission to the event, which will be held at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, is also free.  

The Paladins return four players from last season's team that posted a 9-14 overall record and a 4-3 mark in Southern Conference play.  Junior Ansley Speaks and sophomore Harper Caswell earned All-SoCon accolades during the 2015 season.  Speaks, a native of Simpsonville, S.C., was named to the all-conference first team for both singles and doubles, while Caswell, who hails from Chattanooga, Tenn., was selected to the All-SoCon second team and the SoCon All-Freshman Team.
