Paladins Pick Up Three Wins In Second Round Of Furman Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman picked up three wins Saturday in the second day of the 29th Annual Furman Fall Classic, being held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.   

In the opening round of singles action, junior Ansley Speaks topped Anastasia Reimchen of Iowa, 6-2, 6-4, at flight one, and junior Blair Martin defeated Aimee Tarun, also of Iowa, 6-4, 6-1, at flight five.  In flight six action, Paladin junior Karlee Bryde beat Adorabol Huckleby, 6-1, 6-3.  Sophomore Harper Caswell earned a bye in flight six.

Six teams competing in this weekend's tournament were ranked in the top 61 in the 2014 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings:  Vanderbilt (1), Alabama (14), Clemson (18), South Carolina (29), Florida State (39), and Tennessee (61).  The eight-team field also includes 12 singles players and five doubles teams ranked in the preseason ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday, with singles play beginning at 8:30 a.m.
