Furman Downs IUPUI, 6-1

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman downed IUPUI, 6-1, Thursday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.  With the win, the Paladins have now won four of their last five matches.

Furman swept the doubles matches to claim the opening point.  Junior Ansley Speaks and rookie Katarina Weymouth topped Samantha Mayer and Sara Sherif, 6-2, in the top-seeded match-up, and junior Blair Martin and freshman Gabby Rodriguez teamed up for a 6-1 win over Valeriia Lavrenchuk and Rachel Swartwood at flight two.  In the number three match, sophomore Harper Caswell and junior Karlee Bryde beat Bobbi Modesto and Mariella Pessina, 6-1.

In singles play, Speaks defeated Lavrenchuk, 6-4, 6-1, at flight one, and Weymouth posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory versus Rachel Swartwood at flight two.  Martin topped Mayer, 6-2, 6-3, in the third-seeded contest, and Bryde beat Pessina, 6-3, 6-4, at flight four.  In the number five match-up, Caswell blanked Modesto, 6-0, 6-0. 

The Jaguars lone point came at flight six, where Brigitte Swartwood defeated freshman Rachel Simon, 6-3, 6-0.

The Paladins (7-8) open SoCon play at Mercer on March 19.
