Furman Sweeps UNCG To Remain Undefeated In SoCon Play

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Furman swept UNCG, 7-0, Saturday at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, N.C., to remain unbeaten in SoCon play.  With the win, the Paladins improve to 10-8 overall and 3-0 in league matches.

The Paladins captured two of three doubles matches to take the opening point.  Junior Ansley Speaks and rookie Katarina Weymouth downed Soumeya Anane and Corinne Bluthe, 6-2, in the top-seeded contest, and junior Blair Martin and freshman Gabby Rodriguez defeated Blaine Boaz and Nancy Bridges, 6-3, at flight two.  In the flight three match, Masey DeMoss and Yasmin Franco beat sophomore Harper Caswell and junior Karlee Bryde, 6-4.

In singles action, Speaks topped Ananae, 7-5, 6-2, at flight one, and Weymouth held on for a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 advantage over Amy Ellis in the second-seeded match.  At flight three, Martin topped DeMoss in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-3.  Bryde recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win over Boaz in the number four match, and Rodriguez posted a 6-0, 7-5 victory against Blythe at flight five.  In the number six match, Caswell outlasted Bridges, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

The Paladins (10-8, 3-0 SoCon) will play at Western Carolina Wednesday at 3 p.m.
