GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman improved to a perfect 6-0 in the Southern Conference with a 5-2 win over defending SoCon Champion Samford Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.  With the victory, the Paladins extend their winning streak to eight matches and have won ten of their last eleven contests.

The Paladins swept the doubles matches to take the opening point.  Junior Ansley Speaks and rookie Katarina Weymouth teamed up for a 7-6(7-4) win over Jessica Northcutt and Carita Moolman at flight one, and freshman Gabby Rodriguez and junior Blair Martin beat Ellie Gerlach and Annika Hepp, 6-4, at flight two.  In the third-seeded match, sophomore Harper Caswell and junior Karlee Bryde downed Iva Parapunova and Savannah Wood, 6-4.

In singles action, Martin recorded a quick 6-0, 6-2 victory over Parapunova at flight three to stretch the Paladin lead to 2-0 before Hepp topped Caswell, 6-3, 6-2, at number six to put the Bulldogs on the board.  Furman scored two quick wins to clinch the match, 4-1, as Bryde beat Wood, 6-0, 6-4, at flight four then Weymouth posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Moolman at flight two.

Samford's Gerlach defeated Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-2, at number five to cut the deficit to 4-2 then Speaks came from behind for a 6-7(5-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-6) advantage against Northcutt at flight one.

"We knew going in that this was going to be a huge weekend for us," said Paladin first-year head coach Adam Herendeen.  "I couldn't be more proud of how our girls competed and represented our university.  We had incredible fan support the past two days, and it made for an awesome atmosphere to play in and gave us a big edge!"

The Paladins (13-8, 6-0 SoCon) conclude the regular season on April 16 at ETSU in a battle of the SoCon unbeatens.
