GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team captured two singles wins in the final day of the 30th Annual Furman Fall Classic, which was held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
"This was a great weekend of tennis for all eight teams," said Paladin head coach Adam Herendeen, who is in his second season at the helm of the Furman program. "There are so many people that help run an event like this and I want to thank all of our support staff, volunteers, and officials for their hard work in making this weekend special for all of the student athletes.
"Our girls showed this weekend that they can play with some of the best players in the nation," continued Herendeen. "These matches and experience show us how strong our team really is, and at the same time, how much room we have to improve. I am really proud of how our team represented Furman this weekend."
Six teams competing in the tournament were ranked in the top 63 in the 2016 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings: North Carolina (4th), Vanderbilt (5th), Mississippi State (23rd), Wake Forest (29th), Clemson (35th), and Florida State (63rd). The eight-team field, which also features Tennessee and Furman, includes 12 singles players and six doubles teams ranked in the preseason ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings.
Furman will compete at the ITA Carolinas Regional October 22-25 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
