MALIBU, CALIF. -- Furman senior Ansley Speaks advanced to the consolation finals after recording two wins Saturday at the Oracle ITA Masters Championships in Malibu, Calif.

Speaks defeated Winthrop's Lauren Proctor, ranked 19th among the tournament's players, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, to reach the semifinals, where she beat Sydney Liggins of Xavier, 6-3, 6-3.  Liggins is rated 18th among the 32 players at the tournament.

In Thursday's first round, Speaks, who is rated 22nd in the tournament, dropped a 6-4, 7-6(3) match to Katarina Adamovic of Oklahoma State, who is ranked 11th among the tournament's participants.  Speaks also teamed with David Biosca of East Tennessee State in mixed doubles on Thursday.  The Southern Conference duo fell to Kana Daniel of Penn and Shawn Hadavi from Columbia, 6-4.  In Friday's action, Speaks topped Lidia Yanes Garcia of Austin Peay, 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-6(4).

Following the success of last year's inaugural Oracle ITA Masters, the event has returned in 2016 with an expanded field in men's and women's singles, allowing for players from all across Division I to participate.  Invitations were sent out to one man and one woman from each Division I Conference to participate, with criteria similar to the NCAA Tournament being used. The additional participants caused the draw size to increase from 16 to 32.
