GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman Duals women's tennis tournament will be held this Friday and Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
The tournament will feature four teams in a dual match format. Kennesaw State, Presbyterian, and USC Upstate will join the Paladins in the tournament, which will begin at noon on Friday. Saturday's action will begin at 10 a.m. Admission is free to the event.
"We are looking forward to another great weekend of tennis and watching our team compete," said Furman associate head coach Christine Johnston. "The girls have been working hard all semester, and we are excited to close our fall season with a tournament on our home courts."
The Paladins return five players from last season's team that posted a 15-9 overall record and won the SoCon regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 mark in league play. Furman swept the SoCon post-season awards, with Speaks being honored as the 2016 Southern Conference Player of the Year and Weymouth garnering SoCon Freshman of the Year accolades.
Speaks and Weymouth earned All-SoCon first team status for both singles and doubles, and Blair Martin, Gabby Rodriguez, and Bryde each were named to the All-SoCon second team for doubles. Rodriguez and Weymouth each also snagged a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman Team.
