SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Furman women's tennis team maintained possession of the Pinson Cup Wednesday with a 6-1 win over Wofford at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C.

Bobby and Dixie Pinson, beloved friends of both the Furman and Wofford programs, have given the trophy and a generous donation in honor of the rivalry between the two schools.  The trophy stays with the winning school until the winner of the next season's match is determined, and the Paladins have been awarded the trophy each year since its inception in 2005.

With the win, the Paladins extend their winning streak to seven matches and have now won ten of their last eleven matches.  Furman also pushed its series lead over Wofford to 27-0 with Wednesday's victory.

The Paladins won all three doubles matches to capture the opening point.  Senior Ansley Speaks and junior Aryn Greene defeated Cassidy Hicks and Kalli Karas, 6-1, at flight one, and sophomore Katty Weymouth and rookie Danni Vines beat Catherine Martin and Lauren Reid, 6-1, in the second-seeded match-up.  At flight three, senior Blair Martin and freshman Katarina Kozarov posted a 6-1 victory over Taylor Carlson and Emily Erickson.

In singles action, Furman won five out of six matches in straight sets.  Speaks topped Martin, 6-2, 7-5, at flight one, and Vines blew past Karas, 6-0, 6-1, at number three.  At flight four, Kozarov defeated Reid, 6-1, 6-3, and freshman Hannah Ferrett recorded a 6-1, 6-4 advantage versus Carlson at flight five.  In the sixth-seeded contest, Martin bested Curran Carver, 6-0, 6-3.

The Terriers' lone point came at flight two, where Hicks came from behind for a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 win over Weymouth.

Furman (14-5, 2-0 SoCon) will play at Charlotte Saturday at 11 a.m. then square off against UNC Greensboro Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.  The Paladins will honor seniors Karlee Bryde, Blair Martin, and Ansley Speaks on Sunday.
