GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman junior Katarina Kozarov downed Denver's Bianca Mok, who is ranked 109th, 7-5, 6-4, Sunday in the consolation singles championship match at the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, Calif., while the rest of the Paladin team completed play at the 32nd Annual Debbie Southern Fall Classic, which was held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

Created in 2015, the Oracle ITA Masters has established itself as one of the premier events of the collegiate tennis season. The tournament features singles draws of 32 men and 32 women, and a mixed doubles event with a 32-player draw. Players are chosen based upon conference representation, similar to the NCAA Tournament, with Kozarov representing the Southern Conference.

At the Debbie Southern Fall Classic, freshman Eva Borders defeated Clemson's Laura Marti, 6-7, at flight nine when Marti retired in the second set.  Two Paladins reached the championship match of their flights, with Victoria Flores of Georgia Tech topping freshman Julia Adams, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, at flight six, and freshman Taylor Melville falling to Luna Dromet of Ohio State, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, in the finals of flight eight.

Eleven teams which competed in the Debbie Southern Fall Classic were ranked in the top 38 in the 2018 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings:  Vanderbilt (2), North Carolina (3), Duke (4), Georgia Tech (5), Texas (6), South Carolina (12), Florida State (16), Wake Forest (27), Mississippi State (29), Ohio State (33), and Clemson (39).  The 12-team field includes 21 singles players ranked in the top 75 and 11 doubles teams ranked in the top 40 in the preseason ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings.

"Overall, the weekend was really positive, but I am really disappointed with how we competed today," said Paladin head coach Adam Herendeen, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the Furman program.  "There were some spots where we really buckled down, but we saw a lot of areas that we need to improve on as a team."
