GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman Duals women's tennis tournament will be held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C. The tournament will feature nine teams, in flighted and round robin competition (i.e. no team winner, just individual flight champions for singles and doubles).
Furman will be joined in the tournament field by Charleston Southern, Columbus State, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Presbyterian, UNCW, USC Upstate, and Wingate.
Doubles play will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday. If the outdoor conditions are allowable, one round of singles will be played on Friday. Play will continue on Saturday beginning with one round of doubles at 9 a.m. followed by two rounds of singles. Admission is free to the event.
"We picked up a lot of momentum as a team from our ITA Regionals and have been working hard the past few weeks to improve in some specific areas," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen, who is in his fourth year at the helm of the Paladin program. "This weekend will be a great chance to apply those things against a variety of teams we do not see on a regular basis."
The Paladins return five players from last season's team that posted a 20-9 overall record and won the SoCon regular season title for the third-consecutive season after posting a perfect 7-0 mark in league play. Furman, which won the SoCon tournament title and went on to compete at the NCAA Championships for the second-straight year, placed five players on the All-SoCon team, including Katarina Kozarov, who was named the 2018 SoCon Player of the Year.
