Paladins Upset No.72 Army 5-2

Greenville, SC - The Furman men's tennis teamed improved to 6-10 on the year, upsetting No.72 Army Wednesday night at the Mickel Tennis Center. With the loss the Black Knights move to 12-3.

The Paladins came out strong and easily won the doubles point after sweeping all three doubles matches. In singles play Furman quickly took a 2-0 lead when Ben Pauluhn downed Carl Fisher 7-6(0), 6-3 at No.2. Down a set in flight one and four, Furman battled back in both to move the score to 4-0 and seal the victory for the Paladins. In flight one Allen Simmons downed John Houghton 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 and in flight four Andy Sobczyk hit his way past Michael Good 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Army moved the score to 4-2 when Sebastian Salas defeated Brennen Phippen 7-5, 7-6(5) at No.3 and at No.5 Eddie Kong ousted Scott Kahler 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. In the final match of the night Furman's Kevin Lackey picked up a win over Kevin Harris 7-6(2), 3-6, 10-5.

The Furman men open up their Southern Conference schedule on Saturday, taking on The Citadel in Charleston, SC at noon.
