#59 Furman Notches Wins Over South Carolina State, Gardner-Webb

Greenville, SC - The 59th ranked Furman men's tennis team improved to 7-8 on the year with wins over South Carolina State and Gardner-Webb. In the morning match the Paladins defeated South Carolina State 5-2 before downing Gardner-Webb 6-1 in the afternoon.

Furman took the doubles point in the morning session with wins in all three doubles matches. Furman added to their 1-0 lead with two quick singles wins making the score 3-0. In flight five Daniel Knause defeated Parantap Chaturvedi 6-1, 6-2 and in flight six Chris Gilli ousted Sergey Plotnikov 6-1, 6-4. South Carolina State closed the gap to 3-2 when Andrew Mawire won his flight one match over Andy Juc 6-4, 6-2 and Dragan Bisercic hit his way to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Brian Crook in flight three. Ben Pauluhn then sealed the victory for the Paladins with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Dimitry Lomakin at No.2. In the final match at No.4 Furman's Bo Ladyman battled his way to a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Ionuc Hurduc making the final score 5-2 in favor of the Paladins.

Furman mirrored their doubles success in the afternoon match with wins in all three matches. With the early momentum the Paladins quickly won three singles matches in secure the dual match victory. In flight one Andy Juc eased by Roberto Vasques 6-0, 6-1 while in flight two Daniel Knause knocked off Taylor Ferrier 6-0, 6-2. Furman's Michal Kociecki fought off a first set loss for a 6-7(4), 6-0, 10-2 victory over Gabriel Velga and at No.5 Andy Sobczyk defeated Kim Ellis 6-2, 7-6(3). The Paladins also won the flight six match with Scott Kahler downing Kern Phillip 6-3, 7-6(6). Gardner-Webb picked up a victory in the flight three match with Brad Clinard downing Ryan Friend 6-4, 5-7, 12-10.

The Paladins return to action on Tuesday when they take on Charlotte in Charlotte, NC at 2:00 PM.
