The 69th ranked Furman men's tennis team improved to 11-9 on the season with a 4-3 win over non-conference opponent Charlotte Tuesday afternoon. The loss dropped the 49ers to 8-12 on the year.
Furman fell behind early with Charlotte winning two of the three doubles matches. Furman bounced back from the early 1-0 deficit, winning four of the six singles matches to claim the 4-3 victory. In flight one Charlotte's 79th ranked Roy Sichel downed Ben Pauluhn 6-2, 6-1 while in flight two Furman's Andy Juc claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ryan Johnson. At No.3 Greg Maarschalk picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Dorian Host for Furman while fellow Paladin Bo Ladyman hit his way to a 6-3, 6-0 win over Zvi Lantsberg in flight four. Charlotte claimed the flight five match with Stuart Lynas downing Daniel Knause 7-5, 2-6, 10-5. In the final match in flight six Furman's Chris Gilli defeated Felix Bernhoerster 6-2, 6-2.
The Paladins return to action on Wednesday with a home match against Appalachian State at 2:30 PM.
