Paladin Netters Pick Up 6-1 Win at Appalachian State

Boone, N.C. - The Furman men's tennis team improved to 13-10 with a 6-1 win over the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Thursday afternoon at The ASU Tennis Courts. With the win, the Paladins (13-10, 5-2) have won seven of their last eight matches. Appalachian State fell to 12-7 overall, 4-3 in SoCon action.

The Paladins won doubles matches at flights one and three to take the early lead in the match. At number three, Andy Juc and Scott Kahler remained unbeaten in SoCon action with an 8-4 defeat of David Doverspike and Lee Floyd. Jac and Kahler are 16-5 this spring. Bo Ladyman and Brian Crook posted their tenth win of the season with an 8-4 triumph over Ryan Brookshaw and Dimitar Dimitrov.

Furman won five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets, to take home the victory. Senior Chris Gilli won his seventh consecutive match, recording a 6-2, 6-1 win over Peter Jacobs at number four. At number six, Michal Kociecki improved to 4-0 in the league with his 6-2, 6-3 win over Doverspike. Kociecki has the second longest winning streak on the team at five in a row. Juc, Ladyman and Daniel Knause also picked up wins for the Paladins.

Furman will play its final non-conference match of the year when it hosts South Carolina State on Tuesday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
