Results

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Paladins' top three singles players recorded wins in both singles and doubles play as the Furman men's tennis team defeated Brown, 5-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

Furman posted wins at number one and number two doubles to take the doubles point. Paladin junior Sawyer Duncan and senior Chris Motes recorded a 9-7 win over Kendrick Au and Nathaniel Gorham in the first doubles match, while freshman Carl Lundberg teamed with senior Jordan Walters for a 9-7 win over Timmy Klanke and Tom Deighton in the second doubles match. Brown's Mike Hill and Charlie Posner beat freshman Andrew Mellow and sophomore Watson George 8-5 at number three doubles.

The Paladins won four out of six singles matches, all in straight sets. Duncan defeated Gorham 6-2, 6-2 at number one, while Motes beat Au 6-2, 6-2 at number two. Lundberg recorded a 7-6, 6-3 win over Hill in the third singles match, and Mellow defeated Klanke 6-2, 6-2 at number five singles.

The Bears posted wins in two singles matches, as Deighton defeated Walters 6-2, 6-2 at number four, and Posner beat Paladin freshman Tyler Droll 6-7, 6-3, 10-8 at number six singles.

"I was excited about our winning the doubles point," said Furman head coach Paul Scarpa. "They have an awfully good team, which has had a lot of success. We toughed it out in singles and were fortunate to come away with a win."

Furman (9-9, 5-0 SoCon) will travel to Georgia Southern on April 8 at 2:30 p.m. to play a match that was previously postponed due to inclement weather.
