CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Freshman Reynolds Lambert (-1) fired a 69 on Tuesday to move into a tie for 15th and push the Furman men's golf team up six spots into a tie for fifth place after two rounds at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the par 72, 7,068 yard Cedar Rapids Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Lambert, who teed off on No. 10, birdied his first hole then turned at one over before notching four additional birdies, including three in his last four holes, to finish the day with a 4-under 68.
The Paladins, who scored four birdies on No. 6 and three each on No. 9 and No. 15, had three players at or under par on Monday, including junior Jack Crosby and freshman Ross Funderburke, who each shot even par in the second round.
Senior Keller Harper (E) enters Tuesday's round tie for 19th after tallying a 73 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 15 on Monday, while Funderburke (+2), who birdied No. 9, is tied for 29th. Jack Crosby (+4) posted a team-high five birdies with back to back birdies on No. 15 and No. 16 and birdies on three of his final four holes from No. 6 through No. 9. He is tied for 38th after two rounds. Freshman Walker Crosby (+6) shot a 75 with three birdies and is tied for 57th.
David Perkins (-9) of Illinois State holds a two-stroke lead over the field after scoring rounds of 68-67=135.
Ball State (-16) led the field for the second consecutive day after notching a 281 on Monday. Arkansas State (-5) is 11 strokes back in second place, followed by Campell (-2) in third. Iowa (+2) sits in fourth, while there is a five-way tie for fifth among the Paladins (+4), San Jose State (+4), Jacksonville State (+4), Dayton (+4), and Illinois State (+4).
The 54-hole tournament concludes with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start on Tuesday. Furman will tee off on holes No. 4 through No. 6 and will play in a group with Iowa and San Jose State.
