CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Freshman Reynolds Lambert (+1) shot a final-round 74 to tie for 13th to lead the Furman men's golf team Wednesday at the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the par 72, 7,068 yard Cedar Rapids Country Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Lambert, who teed off on No. 5 in the shotgun start, eagled the par-5 No. 9 and added a birdie on No. 15 to finish at one-over, nine strokes back of individual medalist David Perkins (-10) of Illinois State, who shot three rounds under par to finish at 68-67-71=206.
Senior Keller Harper (+3) shot a 75 with birdies on No. 3 and No. 7 on Tuesday to tie for 21st, while junior Jack Crosby (+4) and freshman Ross Funderburke (+4) tied for 27th place. Jack Crosby led the Paladins with an even 72 with birdies on No. 9 and No. 15, while Funderburke added a 74 with a team-high three birdies in the final round. Freshman Walker Crosby (+14) finished in a tie for 78th place after shooting an 80 with birdies on No. 9 and No. 17 in Tuesday's round.
Ball State (-11) won the tournament by 15 strokes over Campbell (+4). San Jose State (+5) finished third, while Iowa (+7), Illinois State (+4), and Arkansas State (+4) tied for fourth. The Paladins (+11) tied for seventh with UMKC (+11).
Furman will compete at the River Run Collegiate in Davidson, N.C., Sept 23-24.
