ATHENS, GA. -- Notre Dame slipped past Furman, 4-2, Saturday in the opening match of the 12th Annual ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Center in Athens, Ga.

The Paladins picked up two doubles wins to take the opening point.  Ally Bojczuk and Bess Waldram defeated juniors MaryAnn Rompf and Georgie Walker, 6-1, at flight three, but sophomore Julia Adams and senior Katarina Kozarov, who rank 30th nationally, topped Zoe Spence and Cameron Corse, 6-3, at flight one to even the slate.  In the decisive flight two contest, senior Danni Vines and sophomore Madison Dillon held off Zoe Taylor and Page Freeman, 6-4, to claim the point.

Thirteenth-ranked Kozarov blew past Spence, 6-1, 6-0, in the top-flighted singles match to give the Paladins a 2-0 lead before the Fighting Irish answered with victories at flights two through four to take a 3-2 advantage.  Corse recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Adams at flight two, and Bojczuk downed Rompf, 6-2, 6-2, at number three.  At number four, Freeman posted a 6-2, 6-4 win versus Walker. 

At flight five, Furman's Dillon rallied back after dropping the first set, 6-3, claiming a 6-3 advantage in the second set to force a third set.  Notre Dame's Julia Lilien won the set, 6-4, to clinch the match.  

The number six match was unfinished.  Furman's Vines won set one, 6-4, but Taylor came from behind for a 7-6(4) victory in set two.  

Notre Dame moves to 3-0 with the victory. 

Furman (2-3) will square off against the loser of today's Georgia versus Michigan State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
