Furman Falls on the Road at Navy

Tenaglia Scores Twice to Lead the Paladins

Annapolis, Md. – The Furman men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-3 decision on the road to the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday afternoon from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Furman falls to 1-2 on the season while Navy improves to 2-0 overall.

"Today just wasn't our day," said head coach Richie Meade. "I thought we played Navy close in the first quarter and then they were able to pull away. We just couldn't close the gap."

Brett Tenaglia scored two goals to lead the Paladins offensively while Tucker Brown added one. Chad Kreuzer contributed one assist. Corey Hall had a team-high four ground balls. Alec Van de Bovenkamp finished with 11 saves in goal.

Christian Daniel, Nick Cole, Tyler Perreten, Augie Fratt and James Flannery all scored two goals apiece for the Midshipmen. Daniel and Dom Cole both dished out two assists. Daniel also tallied seven ground balls. In goal, Ryan Kern and Spencer Rees each collected two saves.

Navy jumped out to a 19-0 lead early in the fourth quarter after registering five goals in the first, six in the second and five in the third. Perreten scored both of his goals in the first quarter while Fratt had a multi-goal second period. Daniel recorded two goals in the third quarter.

Matty Mayer's goal with 11:30 left in the contest extended the Midshipmen's lead out to 19-0.

Brown got Furman on the board at the 8:16 mark scoring unassisted. Tenaglia added a pair of goals over the final 4:49 with his first coming off an assist from Kreuzer. Tenaglia's final goal with 1:32 remaining put the final score at 19-3.

The Paladins concluded the game with 16 shots and 12 ground balls. Furman also forced Navy into 19 turnovers.

The Paladins remain on the road next Saturday, February 22, traveling to Utah for a 2 p.m. matchup.
