RALEIGH, N.C. -- Junior Ross Funderburke (-1) tied for 19th to pace the Furman (-3) men's golf team to a tie for fourth Sunday at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,358 yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, N.C.
Funderburke, who hails from Roanoke, Va., teed off on No. 16 in the shotgun start then birdied No. 1 and No. 7 on the front nine. He posted consecutive birdies on No. 10 and No. 11 and a final birdie on No. 15 to fire a 68 with five birdies. Funderburke finished nine strokes back of individual medalist Nick Lyerly (-10) of UNCG who posted a three-round total of 65-71-70=206.
Senior Jack Crosby (E) carded an even 72 with three birdies in round three to tie for 22nd, while freshman Will Morlan (+3) tied for 38th after adding a 76 with a birdie on No. 10 in Sunday's third round. Junior Walker Crosby (+4) posted a 72 with five birdies, including three-straight birdies from No. 3 through No. 5 and an additional birdie on No. 7, tying for 43rd, and sophomore Mac Scott (+5) tied for 47th after recording a 77 with a birdie on No. 11 in round three.
Host N.C. State (-17) won the tournament by five strokes over UNCG (-12). Virginia Tech (-4) finished third, while the Paladins (-3) tied for fourth with Lipscomb (-3). Furman defeated SoCon foe Wofford (+20), along with Group of 5 opponents Southern Mississippi (E), Cincinnati (+11), East Carolina (+13), and Eastern Michigan (+14).Â
Furman concluded the fall season with this weekend's tournament. The Paladins will open the 2022 spring season at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at Hilton Head Island, S.C., Feb 21-22.
