Furman Registers Impressive Graduation Rates

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman University athletics continues to excel in its core mission of graduating its student-athletes, according to annual Graduation Success Rate (GSR) figures released today by the NCAA.

Furman registered an overall graduation success rate of 93 for its intercollegiate athletics program, with ten of 14 sports evaluated posting perfect marks of 100.

Men's and women's cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field were grouped as a single sport for both genders.  The University boasts an 18-sport intercollegiate athletics program.

"Furman athletics is incredibly proud of the academic success and consistency that is demonstrated by our student-athletes on an annual basis," said Furman Director of Athletics Jason Donnelly.  "This achievement is a reflection of excellence that Furman University is known for.  We appreciate the hard work by our teams and the commitment from our faculty, coaches, and staff to make this accomplishment possible."

Sports earning perfect 100 graduation rates include men's cross country/track & field, men's soccer, men's tennis, women's cross country/track & field, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's tennis, and volleyball.

The overall GSR for all NCAA Division I institutions is 90 for student-athletes who enrolled over the four-year period from 2011-14.

GSR measures graduation over six years from first-time college enrollment.  It holds institutions accountable for transfer students, includes mid-year enrollees, and is calculated for every sport. Under the calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing. The outgoing transfers are included in the receiving institution's GSR cohort.

The NCAA, which developed the GSR to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes, began compiling GSR figures with the entering freshmen class of 1995.
